To the Zoo!

Over spring break Chloe and I went to the San Diego Zoo.  We had such a great time, the zoo is pretty incredible. Balboa Park is a beautiful setting, the weather was perfect, and the walking (climbing) was a serious workout.  We saw every animal we attempted to see, and each was awake except for some cats.

I felt weird about taking pictures of animals in the zoo.  Not sure why, maybe because everyone's pictures look the same?  I mean, they are animals in cages.  But we had such a great day, and the animals we saw were a huge part of that.  Photos conjure up memories, and honestly I wish I'd taken more.  I didn't take a picture of the adorable baby hippo with its momma, and they were about the cutest thing ever.  I also didn't take pictures of the gorillas who were quite active, and very sweet with each other.  Or the chimpanzees, who were a little X-rated.  I wish I'd taken video of the elephant who was swimming and put on quite the show.
Our day at the zoo was anything but boring.
baby giraffe!  so little and so tall at the same time.
Here come the elephants!
i have a ton of pictures of the elephants.  they were pretty amazing.

We had lunch at the sit-down restaurant, Albert's, because it was about fifteen degrees cooler there.  I had seen this lovely restaurant sitting in the treetops on our way to see the chimpanzees and couldn't erase that inviting image from my mind's eye, so we splurged.  The food was lovely, and worth the couple extra dollars to sit in that setting.
our self portrait at lunch.

We can't wait to go back.

blue & yellow

Just noticed this color combination happening naturally around the house today. I love it.
Folded bath mats.
A dress of Chloe's and a shirt of mine waiting to be ironed.
A wallpaper sample sitting in a bowl.
Sliced lemon in a water pitcher and a beach towel.
A cookie cutter and dish soap on the kitchen counter.

I am so behind on blogging.  Must catch up!

Little Italy

Wednesday we headed to San Diego, grabbed some friends and visited the South Park area.  There is great shopping at the corner of Juniper and 30th, and next time we're going to eat at Station Tavern, because it looks pretty awesome.  That night we went to Little Italy to carb-up for our big day at the zoo.
Chloe and our server, Vince had a flirt affair, we had great food and I had a nice chianti.  Apparently a trip to Little Italy is not complete without a trip to Blick, so that's where we went.
We didn't go in the Whistle Stop, just snapped a photo out front.
