three things: tuesday

1. I have been growing my hair out for three plus years and I am so happy to finally have long-ish hair again. I'm not sure how this bun happened and stayed that way all morning, but I love that my hair is long enough to be all floppy on top of my head! Simple pleasures.

2. Chloe loves this top of mine. She loves every time I wear it. She says it reminds her of her first day of kindergarten, that I wore it with my green jeans. That after school she sat on my lap telling me all about her day and touching my chest and looking at the pattern. I will probably have this blouse forever because she has such fond memories of it. And she says I look pretty in it!

3. Ashley Jennett of The Stork and the Beanstalk is coming to our house Thursday for a mother and child session. I am therefore scrambling around the house trying to pick up/put away/hang anything I may see in the background of a photo that would bug me. And also stopping to take a selfie and blog about it because that is a really good way to manage your time when there is only one-hour left til school pickup and you still have three hours of work left to do. Am I right?

quatro de mayo

Chloe and I bought a couple new pieces of clothing on Olvera Street during Spring Break, so she thought we should have a little Mexican themed party to wear our new things. I love a get together, so we invited some friends for a Mexi-Q.
Our Pavilions makes the best asada marinade, and it makes for an easy menu. I ordered some pollo and carne asada, made some fresh guacamole, and served up some chips y salsa. I made quesadillas for the little ladies. We bought some rice drink from Trader Joe's and whipped up some horchata from their in-store recipe. It's not as good as soaking rice overnight, but it was tasty for a quick version. I think I'll make some popsicles from the leftovers.

through the sun roof

We went up to Olvera Street for lunch and a little exploring the last day of Spring Break. When we got back into our little neighborhood Chloe got to stick her head out of the sun roof as a last hurrah. It is a huge thrill. I mean really, it is. Have you tried it? I thank my friend, Braxton for introducing me to "surfing the car" more than twenty years ago. If I remember correctly he was trying to cheer me up after a break-up, and it worked. Hugely. And that was the one time I surfed the car.

Then one night, years ago I was feeling exceptionally blue over my infertility when we were driving home from dinner. I was feeling so very sad and just wanted to feel better. I asked Geoff to pull the car off to a little side road and open the sun roof. I stuck my head and arms out and asked him drive. Poor guy, I do make a lot of crazy requests and he almost always obliges without question. And there I was surrounded by darkness, just stars and the moonlight and salty sea air rushing through my hair. The wind whipping tears from my watery eyes. And I felt better. Lighter.

And well, just look at her.
